MADISON — The Rocket City Trash Pandas Foundation is doing its part to support local nonprofit organizations in North Alabama.
The charitable arm of the minor league baseball team announced it raised $56,665.71 in the final three jersey auctions of the season.
The space-themed jersey auction Aug. 10 brought in $12,443 which was split between Rose of Sharon Soup Kitchen and the Trash Pandas Foundation.
A wedding tuxedo-styled jersey Aug. 31 raised $6,333 which was divided between Wellstone and the Trash Pandas Foundation.
The final auction was the Huntsville Stars jersey auction Sept. 7. It garnered $7,065 which was split between Land Trust of North Alabama and the Trash Pandas Foundation.
Maddison Kendrick, director of Community Relations for the Trash Pandas, explained why the auctions have been so successful.
“The main reason is that they are a specialty item. It’s a fans’ one and only chance to bid on an item that will only be seen on the field worn by the players once, and they all tie into a fun theme each year. Whether they’re bidding on it because it’s their favorite player (imagine owning a game-worn Caden Dana or Christian Moore jersey!) or it’s because of the design itself.
“It’s also a great way for our fans to give back to the community.”
According to Kendrick, the auctions allow the foundation the opportunity to give back to the community.
“I believe it’s also so important for our Foundation to donate to local non-profit organizations because not only are they our neighbors, but we’re able to help support them financially so they continue their own programming to provide the resources and support people need in our community and remain a great place to live.”
