WASHINGTON – Sen. Tommy Tuberville has been named chairman of the Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Personnel, his office announced.
The subcommittee oversees staffing key Department of Defense military and civilian personnel, policies, compensation and benefits, and military nominations. He will provide oversight on military budget accounts and DOD offices and agencies, according to his office.
“As Alabama’s voice on the Senate Armed Services Committee, I’m honored to be the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Personnel,” Tuberville (R-Auburn) said. “As the son of a World War II veteran, I know firsthand the sacrifices that our men and women in uniform make for our country.
“I will see to it that military personnel are well-compensated and get the benefits they deserve — it’s the least we can do.”
Tuberville also retained his seat on the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, which has jurisdiction over U.S. Space Command and the Missile Defense Agency.
Tuberville has led calls for the Air Force to act on its recommendation to place SPACECOM at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, and he is positioned to lead the entire Alabama delegation in supporting a smooth transition.
Alabama is home to over 13,000 active-duty military members, over 25,000 National Guard and reserve members, nearly 400,000 veterans, and five military bases.
“As Pete Hegseth assembles his team at the Pentagon, we will work tirelessly to make sure they have the support and personnel they need to implement President Trump’s America First agenda and restore peace through strength,” Tuberville said. “As chairman, I will be laser-focused on enhancing the quality of life for our brave military personnel both during and after their time in service so we can ensure our military remains the most lethal fighting force in the world.”
