TUSCALOOSA — Citing his CPA background, the Alabama House Republican Caucus unanimously elected State Rep. Kerry “Bubba” Underwood to serve as treasurer.
The action came during the group’s annual policy retreat in Tuscaloosa.
“Though he is a freshman House member, Rep. Underwood’s election as caucus treasurer demonstrates that he has earned the trust and confidence of his fellow Republicans,” House Majority Leader Scott Stadthagen (R-Hartselle) said. “As an accountant by profession, he will provide strict fiscal accountability and ensure that caucus dollars are spent in the promotion of the conservative beliefs, principles, and policies that all of us support as committed Alabama Republicans.”
A certified public accountant, Underwood (R-Tuscumbia) was elected to two terms as mayor of Tuscumbia before running for state representative in 2022.
“I deeply appreciate the faith that my Republican colleagues have placed in me and appreciate the serious responsibility of serving as a caucus officer,” Underwood said. “The House Republican Caucus is comprised of some of the finest men and women that I have ever met, and each of us are strong conservatives who are deeply committed to making an already great state even better.”
Prior to the 2025 regular session, Underwood was selected to co-chair the House GOP Caucus’ platform committee, which was responsible for creating the “Alabama Values” legislative agenda that included measures relating to job creation, honest election safeguards, public education improvements, crimefighting tools, military and veterans affairs, and other areas. Bills included in the agenda were enacted this year.
He holds seats on the House Ways and Means General Fund; Financial Services; Urban and Rural Development; Boards, Agencies and Commissions; Sunset; and Local Legislation committees.
Underwood and his wife, Anna, an occupational therapist for the Colbert County School System, are parents to one son, Walker, and Underwood’s three stepdaughters, Holly, Victoria and Faith. They also have three grandchildren, Vivianne, Luke, and Jon Bradford.
