TVA pledges support to Sweet Grown Alabama

MONTGOMERY — For about 75 years, the Tennessee Valley Authority has been providing help for the agriculture industry.

And now the federal agency is helping that growth even more as a supporter of Sweet Grown Alabama, the state’s agricultural branding program.

“TVA and Sweet Grown Alabama share a common mission of economic growth and enriching the communities we have the privilege to serve,” said Jared Mitchem, TVA regional executive. “This partnership reflects our continual efforts to make life better for the people of Alabama and throughout the entire Tennessee Valley region.”

Sweet Grown Alabama connects consumers to locally grown products online through  SweetGrownAlabama.org. The contribution from TVA will help ensure more Alabamians are aware of website to access local produce, meat, honey and more.

“Supporting Sweet Grown Alabama aligns with TVA’s history and agricultural programs dating back to the 1950s, including the development of fertilizers and improved management techniques that were revolutionary and adopted by farmers nationwide,” said TVA Government Relations Manager Danny McWilliams.

Sweet Grown Alabama is a membership program composed of more than 400 farms and businesses. In addition to its website, Sweet Grown Alabama markets local products through traditional and online advertising, speaking engagements, special events and a monthly e-newsletter.

“TVA is a leader in North Alabama in not only providing power but also economic development,” said Sweet Grown Alabama Director Ellie Watson. “Alabama consumers spending money with Alabama farmers is an incredible way to ensure our communities continue to thrive, and we are incredibly pleased that TVA believes in this sentiment just as much as we do”

TVA joins a slate of a dozen companies and organizations supporting Sweet Grown Alabama for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
