UNA captures 2024-25 ASUN men’s all-sports trophy

FLORENCE — The University of North Alabama received a top Atlantic Sun Conference award for the first time, winning the Jesse C. Fletcher Trophy.

The Jesse C. Fletcher Trophy is the ASUN’s men’s all-sports trophy, presented each season to the athletic department that achieves the highest point percentage across the men’s sports it sponsors. The award was presented at the conference awards meeting in Jacksonville, Fla.

The Lions finished the 2024-25 season with 124.5 out of a possible 153 points for an 81.3 success percentage. Lipscomb (70.5%), FGCU (70.3%), Stetson (68.6%), and North Florida (64.3%) rounded out the top 5.

“It is a shining moment in North Alabama Athletics history to receive the Jesse C. Fletcher Trophy, a major award from the ASUN, as well as an indicator of the outstanding achievement for our men’s sports, coaching staff, and all of those in Athletics,” said UNA President Dr. Ken Kitts. “This is, indeed, a crowning achievement of UNA and all of those who were part of this winning season.”

The UNA men’s basketball and men’s tennis programs led the way, as basketball netted 34.5 points with a shared regular season title, and tennis earned 27 points with an outright regular season championship and tournament title.

The UNA men’s golf program helped the cause with 27 points after a fourth-place finish in the ASUN Championship in Valdosta, Ga. The UNA men’s cross country team enjoyed a fifth-place finish in the ASUN Championships in Jacksonville, led by individual champion Brian Bett, to earn 24 points.

The UNA baseball team rounded out the scoring with 12 points, finishing third in the ASUN Gold Division and earning its first trip to the ASUN postseason tournament.

All five programs finished with record seasons, earning their highest point totals of the ASUN era. The Lions joined the league in 2018.

“Being crowned the ASUN Men’s All-Sport Champion is a massive department-wide accomplishment,” said Director of Athletics Dr. Josh Looney. “To accomplish this feat in just our third year of full Division I membership represents another significant first to celebrate. UNA Athletics is filled with incredible athletes, coaches, and staff who pour positive energy into our university and community.

“Their belief and grit continue to fuel our championship rise in the Atlantic Sun. Raise The Roar!”
