UNA signs tuition deals with Nucor, federal agency

FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama has extended its educational reach thanks to a pair of agreements the school recently signed.

UNA signed a learning agreement with Nucor that will benefit the company’s team members with a tuition scholarship toward any online or on-campus degree from UNA.

UNA President Dr. Ken Kitts signed the agreement with Nucor representatives in a ceremony at the company’s Decatur facility. The partnership between UNA and Nucor is effective immediately and expected to benefit more than 700 of Nucor’s team members at the Morgan County location.

“Nucor is extremely proud to partner with the University of North Alabama to provide a quality education at discounted rates for our team members.” said Brad Ford, vice president/general manager of Nucor Steel Decatur. “Nucor’s mission is to grow the core, expand beyond, and to live our culture. Investments into our talent are critical to achieving our mission and ensuring the long-term success of our company.

“UNA’s online and in-person options are a great fit to help our teammates reach their career goals as we build on our growth and development initiatives.”

In the other agreement, UNA is joining about 30 other colleges in the Federal Academic Alliance. With this program through the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, UNA and the other colleges can offer reduced tuition to the more than 2 million federal government employees.

“We are incredibly pleased to be an official educational partner for the U.S. federal government and its over 2 million employees who can now pursue a UNA degree online, with an attractive tuition scholarship,” said Dr. Ross Alexander, provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs. “UNA is in impressive company with the fewer than 30 other official educational providers, most of whom are mega-universities or large research institutions.”

OPM entered into its agreement with UNA to address the skills gaps in mission critical occupations, increase federal employees’ access to high-quality, affordable educational resources, and further develop and retain the federal workforce. The process to complete the agreement was handled by .

“We are thrilled to join the Federal Academic Alliance and look forward to supporting federal employees worldwide with access to high-quality educational options that are both affordable and flexible,” said Amanda Sherrod, director of University Partnerships.
