What an opening for Huntsville’s first Whataburger

Several Huntsville leaders will join the Rocket City Trash Pandas’ Astronaut, Racer Buzz at the official grand opening and ribbon-cutting of Huntsville’s first Whataburger restaurant at 11701 South Memorial Parkway, just north of Redstone Road beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10.

Whataburger opened to customers last November, but tomorrow’s ceremony makes it official as Whataburger operating partner John Garcia joins members of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce and Ashley Engles-Ross, Chamber vice president of Small Business to not only celebrate a new venture for Whataburger but to celebrate his bringing over 125 jobs to Huntsville and a much-needed partnership with the Food Bank of North Alabama.

“We’re honored to bring Whataburger’s hearty and customizable creations to Huntsville,” said Garcia. “We want to thank the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce for celebrating with us and the community for welcoming Whataburger to the neighborhood.”

If Whataburger seems to have a 21st century twist on a retro-1950s look, that’s because their fresh, made-to-order burgers and friendly customer service date back to the first small, roadside Whataburger stand in Corpus Christie, Texas, in 1950.

But the company has not stayed in the 1950s. They have grown their burger and fries menu to include today’s favorites like sweet and spicy bacon burgers, honey barbecue chicken strip sandwiches, and fresh-made salads.

Today, Whataburger has grown to over 870 locations across its 14-state footprint with sales of more than $3 billion annually.
