What up, dog? Decatur to host international disc dog tournament

DECATUR – Next year, Decatur will be going to the dogs.

Disc dogs, that is.

Decatur Morgan County Tourism is hosting the UpDog International Finals 2025, which is expected to be one of the largest disc dog events ever in the world.

The competition will take place April 1-6, 2025, at the Spirit of America fields at Point Mallard Park.

“The competition will span five days, bringing together 350 to 400 human competitors and their talented dogs,” said Kat Fahle, a founder of the UpDog Challenge. “We are looking forward to holding the event in Decatur, as the Point Mallard Park Spirit of America fields provide a perfect setting for our competition.

“Our competitors will enjoy exploring the beautiful area and experiencing the local hospitality.”

The event will attract top-tier teams from across the United States, Canada, and potentially Europe and South America, who will gather to compete, showcase their skills, and have a ton of fun.

“We are incredibly excited to help bring UPDIF 2025 to Decatur,” said Don Dukemineer, director of Sports Development for Decatur Morgan County Tourism. “This event not only highlights the vibrant and growing sport of disc dog competitions but also provides us with a fantastic opportunity to showcase Decatur as a premier destination for diverse sporting events.

“We look forward to welcoming the competitors and spectators to our community and demonstrating our commitment to supporting a wide range of sports.”

The UpDog Challenge is an international disc dog organization that brings together people and their dogs to enjoy a variety of disc (Frisbee) games. Founded in 2014, UpDog has rapidly grown into one of the largest disc dog organizations in the world.

This year, UpDog competitions are being held across the U.S., Canada, Poland, Colombia, and Australia.
