As July comes to a close, communities across North Alabama are making the most of the season with free family events, local celebrations and opportunities to support Alabama businesses. Here are a few happenings to check out this weekend.
Sweet Grown Alabama Day – Statewide
July 25th
Supporting local has never been easier. Sweet Grown Alabama Day encourages residents across the state to celebrate by making at least one purchase from an Alabama farmer, fisherman or producer. Visit your favorite farmers market, stop by a local farm stand, pick up fresh seafood or shop for Alabama-grown produce, flowers, honey and more. Many markets, including several in North Alabama, will also host special activities throughout the day.
Huntsville Times 100 Year Anniversary Block Party
July 25th
Celebrate the centennial of one of downtown Huntsville’s most recognizable landmarks during the 100 Years of the Times Building Block Party. The free community event will feature live music, food trucks, local vendors, guided tours, Huntsville history trivia and family-friendly activities, along with a special presentation exploring the building’s century-long history and iconic Art Deco architecture.
The Drive-In Laser Light Show – Huntsville
July 25th
Joe Davis Stadium will transform into a drive-in concert experience as the Drive-In Laser Light Show comes to Huntsville for two nights only. Gates open at 5 p.m., with synchronized laser displays set to popular music, creating a family-friendly show you can enjoy from the comfort of your vehicle. Pack some snacks, roll down the windows and settle in for an evening of lights, music and summer fun.
Movies at The Amp – Florence
July 24th
Grab a blanket or lawn chair and head to the Muscle Shoals Amphitheater for another Movies at the Amp on Friday, July 24. The free, family-friendly event begins at 7 p.m. at 2010 E. Avalon Ave., with food trucks including Kona Ice, Loaded J’s, Skylar Skoops and SMASHED serving starting at 6 p.m. Stick around until sundown, when The Super Mario Galaxy Movie lights up the big screen.
