A new affordable housing community for older adults is opening in Huntsville, adding 48 income-restricted apartments for residents age 55 and older as local leaders continue efforts to expand housing options across the city.
The City of Huntsville will join Neighborhood Concepts Inc. on July 16 to celebrate the grand opening of Grove at Indian Creek, a new affordable senior housing community at 7199 New Life Circle NW.
The development was funded in part through HOME Investment Partnerships Program funds allocated by the City of Huntsville’s Community Development Department.
City Administrator John Hamilton, Huntsville City Council District 5 member John Meredith, Community Development Manager Scott Erwin and Neighborhood Concepts Executive Director Mary Ellen Judah are expected to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside project partners.
The development provides 48 income-restricted apartments designed for seniors while supporting the city’s broader efforts to increase affordable housing opportunities.
Neighborhood Concepts first announced the project in 2025, describing it as a development for residents age 55 and older as well as individuals with disabilities. The apartments are available to households earning 60% or less of Huntsville’s area median income.
At the time, Judah said the project represented more than just new housing.
“This project is about more than housing — it’s about investing in our community,” Judah said. “Grove at Indian Creek will create affordable homes and local jobs, helping Huntsville grow in a way that benefits everyone.”
Construction also created employment opportunities through HUD’s Section 3 program, which gives hiring preference to low-income residents on federally funded projects.
Grove at Indian Creek is located adjacent to the Cottages at Indian Creek, a similar affordable senior housing community completed by Neighborhood Concepts in 2022.
Neighborhood Concepts, a Huntsville-based nonprofit organization, has spent more than three decades developing affordable housing and expanding economic opportunities throughout north Alabama.
The grand opening ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Grove at Indian Creek, 7199 New Life Circle NW in Huntsville.
