ALDOT has a gift of no road closures on state highways for Thanksgiving holiday

MONTGOMERY — The Alabama Department of Transportation is doing its part in making holiday travel easier.

The agency said there are no planned lane closures in the state from noon Wednesday to midnight Sunday.

“Thanksgiving is one of the most traveled holidays, and we know everyone is eager to get to their celebrations,” said Allison Green, Drive Safe Alabama coordinator. “By pausing road work, ALDOT is making it easier to keep traffic moving. We ask drivers to do their part too – stay focused on the road and limit distractions.”

ALDOT is also urging motorists to drive safely by not operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It suggests designating a sober driver before consuming alcohol. The agency also stressed the need to buckle up when in the car for any amount of time, no matter how short, to reduce injuries and fatalities.

Lastly, ALDOT emphasized the need to limit distractions, including the use of phones. Passengers, according to the organization, should handle all texts and calls.

Travelers can find Alabama traffic and road condition information, including live traffic camera feeds at ALGOtraffic.com or by downloading the ALGO Traffic app.
