HUNTSVILLE — The Advanced Manufacturing Innovation and Integration Center is participating in the Biden administration’s initiative to boost the use of 3D printing in the domestic supply chain.
The initiative, called AM (Additive Manufacturing) Forward will, according to the White House, pair large manufacturers with U.S.-based suppliers to help adopt 3D printing technology. The administration said GE Aviation, Honeywell, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Siemens are among the initial companies taking part. Their mission is to bolster the supply chain, while lowering production costs.
“We’ve seen how the pandemic impacted our supply chain,” said John Schmitt, executive director of Huntsville-based AMIIC. “This national crisis underscored how important it is to have cutting-edge technology woven into our supply chain.
“AMIIC and its partners stand ready to work with industry leaders to advance the goals of AM Forward through cutting edge additive and digital engineering training.”
AMIIC a sister organization to America Makes, a public-private partnership for additive manufacturing technology and education. The organization serves as a collaborative innovation hub, forming partnerships to access a national network of technologists.
