MONTGOMERY — Attorney General Steve Marshall has removed himself from the list of possible candidates to succeed Gov. Kay Ivey.

According to the Associated Press, Marshall said Tuesday he won’t run for governor in 2026 – a decision he and his wife made over Thanksgiving.

“Definitely not running for governor,” he said. “Tammy and I talked a lot over the year and then made the decision over Thanksgiving that it just didn’t seem to be a good next step for us.”

Ivey and Marshall have been in office since 2017 and are both in their final terms.

But, Marshall left the door open for other opportunities after 2026.

“I am definitely not going to seek the role of governor and then we’ll see what plays out,” he said.
