ATHENS – The refurbished Athens Farmers Market is ready for shoppers.
The downtown icon opens Tuesday and will run every Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. through Aug. 29.
The popular Saturday markets will begin June 3 and run through September. The hours are 8 a.m. to noon.
“We are looking forward to providing fresh, local options for foods and artisan items at a more convenient time for many of our patrons,” said Market Manager Kat Greene. “Come down to the market on Tuesday after carpool or work and shop local.”
The pavilion has been refurbished with more open spaces, painted pavilion tables, a new roof, and festive string lights. The next phase begins later in the year.
“Our renovation project will transform the market site into a beautiful park and multi-use site for our community,” Athens Main Street Executive Director Tere Richardson said.
The Athens Farmers Market is an Alabama Certified Farmers Market. This means that all
produce is locally and naturally grown in North Alabama or the Tennessee Valley. Prepared
foods and handcrafted goods at the market are also locally made.
To celebrate opening day, musician Drew Clemons will perform from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Also, On Thin Ice and Rocket City Popperz will be there with yummy treats for all ages and the Athens-Limestone County Public Library will be giving away children’s books.
