Athens-Limestone Empty Bowls Project helps fulfill lives

ATHENS — The bowls may be empty, but they will be filled with soup this week for the annual Empty Bowls Lunch benefit.
The event, where local restaurants provide the soups and local artists provide the bowls, is Friday at Revival – just off the square in Athens – from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
 
Something new this year is a Makers Market featuring works of local pottery and art. Also, area businesses donated services and products to be purchased. There will also be a silent auction.
 All proceeds go to agencies that address hunger and food insecurity in the Athens-Limestone County community including Limestone County Churches Involved, school backpack programs and homeless charities. Tickets cost $15, which includes two cups of soup, bread, and a handmade bowl. 
Tickets are available from committee members, the offices at First Presbyterian Church and First Methodist Church, Eventbrite and the Facebook page.
