Athens native Brittany Howard on tour after recent record deal

ATHENS – Rolling Stone magazine recently announced Athens native Brittany Howard’s upcoming solo tour.

Howard is possibly best known for her role as lead singer for the award-winning Alabama Shakes. Alabama Shakes started in Athens in 2009 with Brittany as lead vocal and guitarist alongside drummer Steve Johnson, guitarist Heath Fogg, and bassist Zac Cockrell. Fans found the Southern rock band’s sound refreshing and raw.

Howard released her debut solo album titled “Jaime” in 2019 to the applause of many. She has since released a string of singles and EPs. Needless to say, Howard’s upcoming tour is highly anticipated.

The fall tour will begin in early November at Birmingham’s Iron City. From there it’s Nashville, Knoxville, Memphis, Atlanta, Houston, and Dallas before concluding in Mexico City. L’Rain will accompany her at each of the U.S.-based shows.

This tour comes on the heels of a recent record deal between Howard and Island Records. According to Island Records, “Since Chris Blackwell first started Island Records in Jamaica in 1959, it has remained one of the world’s most legendary record labels and a coveted destination for new and established artists across genres. Its unique ethos has provided the platform for launching some of the biggest and most influential artists across the musical spectrum, including Bob Marley, U2, Grace Jones, Cat Stevens and more. Today, Island is home to a varied roster with global superstars Shawn Mendes, Demi Lovato to Bon Jovi, Jessie Reyez, Sabrina Carpenter, The Killers, Lauren Spencer Smith, Remi Wolf, SleazyWorld Go, Chappell Roan, and many more.”

This transition marks a major movement in Howard’s career and will no doubt serve as the beginning of a new era of international success for the artist. See the full tour schedule and purchase tickets here.
