Athens woman dies in motorcycle crash

DECATUR – An Athens woman was killed Saturday night in a motorcycle crash, Decatur police reported.

Police said Janet Gay Smith, 72, of Athens was a passenger on the motorcycle when it crashed on Alabama Highway 20 around 6 p.m. Saturday.

According to Decatur police, Decatur Fire & Rescue, Decatur Morgan EMS and police officers were dispatched to the Speedway gas station at 3026 Alabama 20 for a single motorcycle wreck

There, officers found a motorcyclist and Smith with injuries. They were transported to Decatur Morgan Hospital for treatment where Smith died from her injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
