HUNTSVILLE — The Aviagen North America team from Huntsville shared its strategy of “breeding for welfare and sustainability” at Canada’s National Poultry Show recently.

Due to this balanced breeding approach, the company said, strong performance and livability are dominant traits of its Ross birds.

According to company President Marc de Beer, Aviagen’s progress in breeding for welfare and sustainability is driven by “a commitment to research and development and innovation, and leveraging these to help our customers succeed.”

Aviagen’s new remote customer service enables producers worldwide to get instant advice on their challenges and insight on ways to best improve the performance, efficiency and health of their flocks, said de Beer. The tool employs live-streaming capabilities to connect Aviagen specialists with poultry producers.

Through an onsite user’s VR headset and goggles, an expert can view in real time what the wearer sees. There is also a zoom capability to see detail in relevant areas.

As an example, Aviagen’s Virtual Marketing and Commercial Support Manager Wouter Lassauw addressed the audience in Canada from his office in Huntsville, while demonstrating a special diagnostics procedure at a farm in Arkansas.

Aviagen’s Antonio Beitia, Technical Development Team program member; and Gary Hogue, Regional Business manager were onsite at the farm to facilitate the new remote customer service tool.

“Aviagen shares with the Canadian Poultry Industry Council and Western Fair District for their commitment to strengthening the industry in Canada and the communities it serves.
