Battle saddles up for Bike Safety Month with Mayor’s Bike Ride

HUNTSVILLE – Mayor Tommy Battle kicks off the first weekend of National Bike Safety Month with his 14th annual Mayor’s Bike Ride around the historic neighborhoods of downtown Huntsville.

The four-mile ride is set for 11 a.m. Saturday and begins and ends at Church Street in Big Spring Park, in front of the YMCA building.

Also part of the Healthy Huntsville program that promotes fitness and nutrition, the Mayor’s Bike Ride is organized in partnership with the City’s Bicycle Advisory Safety Committee.

“This is one of our favorite events of the year,” said Battle. “From serious cyclists to young children, there’s a real sense of community as we enjoy the beautiful sights of Downtown Huntsville.”

If you don’t have a bike, a limited number of Huntsville’s Blue Bikes can be found at bike stations in Big Spring East, Big Spring West, Butler Green, Five Points, Jefferson/Holmes, Lumberyard, Roundhouse, Twickenham Square, Visitor Center, Washington/Clinton and Westside Square.

Blue bikes are available to the public for $2 per 30-minute ride, but will be free during the Bike Ride event.

Users must have the bikeshare app to take advantage of the offer.

Registration for the ride begins at 10:30 a.m.

Participants are invited to check out the vendors and register for the chance to win a new bicycle.

Free parking will be available at Municipal Garage M, 100 Church Street.
