ATHENS — Athens’ trendy Merchants Alley is plugged into St. Patrick’s Day with three events designed to get your shamrocks shaking.

The city will shut down Washington Street and raise a tent surrounded by food trucks and music.

It begins with family fun at Athens Alehouse & Cellar on Washington Street where its St. Patrick’s Day Bash will feature the Andrew’s Legend Band.

The fun starts at 4 and runs until 10 p.m. with plenty of food from Sandman Sandmiches and Rocket City Popperz. There will also be beer tents for those interested in having a “scoop.”

Limestone Legends Billiards on Marion Street is hosting its St. Patrick’s Day Party featuring DJ Manny with Acosta Entertainment. Start practicing your pitch because karaoke begins at 8:30 p.m.

Lockhart Music and country vibes from Brandon Lee wind things down from 7-10 p.m.

There will also be a deejay, plenty of food and drinks, with some additional surprises.

“Although this is not an Athens Main Street event, we are here to support and encourage anyone who wants to hold an event or a block party in the downtown area,” said Tere Richardson, executive director of Athens Main Street.

She said Merchants Alley is shared community space where bands can come down and just plug in and start playing.

“If it brings people downtown,” she said. “Everyone benefits.”
