Boy, 13, arrested for possessing 9mm at Madison middle school

MADISON — A 13-year-old boy was arrested Thursday when he was found with a loaded 9mm handgun at a Madison middle school.

According to Madison police, the arrest stemmed from a report Wednesday night about a 13-year-old child carrying a pistol at a local apartment complex. Officers were unable to confirm that the child had a firearm and notified the School Resource Officer at Liberty Middle School where the child attends.

On Thursday, SROs made contact with the student. The 9mm was found on him after a search by officers and school staff.

The youth, whose name is being withheld due to his age, was charged with Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm, which is a felony under Alabama Law. He was taken to the Neaves-Davis Juvenile Detention Center.

An investigation is underway into the incident.
