LAKEVIEW — Demolition of the 83-year-old bridge on Alabama Highway 75 over Town Creek at Lakeview in DeKalb County began this  week.

Traffic recently shifted to the new bridge built by contractor Miller and Miller. The $13.7 million project constructed a longer, wider and taller bridge that includes shoulders and corrects the steep vertical curves on both approaches to improve safety.

The new Highway 75 bridge over Town Creek opened to traffic July 14.

The bridge undergoing demolition was constructed in 1942.

A concrete removal subcontractor began cutting the bridge Wednesday. It will be removed piece by piece, limiting disturbance to the creek below.
