HUNTSVILLE – After years of silence, one of Huntsville’s most iconic properties is humming back to life.
The Lumberyard, a sprawling and storied venue just off Meridian Street, has reopened as a dynamic event space that blends history, hospitality, and hometown charm.
Originally established in 1895, the Lumberyard has seen Huntsville grow around it. Now, thanks to a multi-year renovation led by TVG Hospitality, the team behind the Orion Amphitheatre, it’s stepping into a new chapter.
The space features an eclectic mix of shops, game areas, a bar, and a lovingly restored 1924 Pullman train car, all designed to host everything from weddings and corporate events to murder mystery dinners and art pop-ups.

“We’ve been working with Jessica and Doug Smith for three years to bring this vision to life,” said Kamerra Liles, assistant general manager at the Orion Amphitheatre. “We’re partnering with a bunch of community promoters to make sure that this space gives back to the community and is restored to the heart of its essence that it originally had.”
Phase 1 of the reopening includes five rentable spaces with a total capacity of 534 guests. Future phases promise even more: A restaurant and concert venue space are in the works for next year.
The Lumberyard hosted a friends-and-family media night Thursday, featuring performances by Robert Aldrich and Nightlife by Zoë, as well as local art installations. The event also featured a showcase of preferred vendors including Mason Dixon, The Mercado Group, Endless Catering, and Odette, along with local florist Native Petals.

While The Lumberyard has sat largely dormant since just before the COVID-19 pandemic, it was once known for its laidback brunch scene and bustling night life.
Much of that original charm remains — just refreshed and reimagined.
“We’ve kept the same elements that make up the Lumberyard, it’s just been repurposed or moved around” said Lyles.
In addition to private rentals, The Lumberyard will host a weekly Tuesday farmers’ market and seasonal pop-ups, such as Jim Avett and the Red Flags on May 9.
