Bulldogs start fast in first day of football camp

NORMAL — The Alabama A&M University football program made another step toward kicking off the 2025 season this morning as the Bulldogs opened Day 1 of Fall Camp in Louis Crews Stadium.

“We wanted to come out (to today’s first practice) and start fast,” Alabama A&M head coach Sam Shade said. “That sets the tone, and we want a team that will start fast and finish.”

The Bulldogs were in helmets and shorts during a hot morning for their first practice, building up toward the first session in full pads next week.

“We are always looking for competition and build competition,” Shade said. “The more competition we are going to get, the better we are going to be. I like the competition we were in this morning, even though we were in helmets. In t-shirts and shorts, sometimes you can’t go as hard as you want to go.

“We’ve got two days of this before we put the pads on. Then I think the competition level will heat up a bit more.”

Shade welcomes back veteran quarterback Cornelious Brown IV, who threw for 1,666 yards and 12 touchdowns last season.

On the defensive side, linebacker Dimitris Biamby will add valuable leadership as he accounted for 42 tackles and 18 solo stops a year ago.

In less than a month, the Bulldogs open their season at Arkansas on Aug. 30. The home opener brings Alcorn State to the Rocket City for the 15th annual Louis Crews Classic on Sept. 6.

Fan Day
Fans are invited to watch Alabama A&M’s Fan Day on Aug. 16 at 10 a.m. in Louis Crews Stadium. The annual Maroon and White scrimmage will begin at noon.

Fan Day will feature the Bulldog Walk, an opportunity to meet the AAMU cheerleaders, an MMW Showcase by the marching band and inflatables. Additionally, fans can pick up their 2025 schedule of fall sports, including women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, volleyball and football.

The event is free and open to the public.
