FLORENCE – The small cafe is warm and welcoming, with the smell of coffee beans, ranchero sauce, and tortillas.
Cafe de Frida is the newest offering from the owners of Florence favorite El Pollito Loco on North Pine Street. Serving breakfast, brunch, and lunch fare, the cafe caters to the University of North Alabama crowd as well as those working in the Seven Points area.
The specialties include a ranchero plate of eggs with salsa, black beans, avocado, and tortillas; chilaquiles with salsa, refried black beans, a fried egg, and queso fresco; an omelette quesadilla; the Diego special; and the el Clasico. Burritos, sandwiches, pancakes, toast, parfaits, and pastries round out the menu.
And what is breakfast without a cup of coffee? Cafe de Frida’s cafecito menu is filled with flavor, from the coolness of an affogato to the spicy chocolate of the Mexican mocha to the cinnamon sweetness of the dirty horchata.
Though, if coffee isn’t your thing, they have something for you, too. Try the fresh-squeezed orange juice; the sunrise blend with orange juice, banana, a raw egg, cinnamon, and vanilla; a protein shake; a bottle of Jarritos or a Topo Chico.
The food portions are filling, the prices are reasonable, and the reviews are glowing:
- “Everything tasted fresh and delicious and the staff was kind and friendly! I’ll be back to try more on the menu!”
- “I want the dirty horchata on tap please! So happy to have Cafe de Frida in the Shoals!”
- “Mexican mocha was delicious! It’s got a little spice, but so tasty!”
When you find yourself hungry for something different for breakfast or lunch, take a drive to Seven Points and pop into Cafe de Frida for a plate of flavor and a cup of deliciousness.
The cafe, 1611 N. Pine St. in Florence, is open 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
