ATHENS – Bring your overhead slams and drop shots but avoid the NVZ.
That’s right, picklers! It’s pickleball time!
The second annual Athens Alabama Pickleball Association Picklefest Tournament hits the courts next weekend.
The three-day event at the Athens Sportplex from Sept. 22-24, will be another extravaganza for players, spectators and erstwhile pickleball enthusiasts.
“We are thrilled to bring back the AAPA Picklefest pickleball tournament for its second year,” said tournament Chair Jennifer Bridges. “It’s an excellent opportunity for the pickleball community to come together, showcase their skills, and have a lot of fun.”
The tournament will feature various skill levels, including singles, doubles, and mixed doubles divisions. Each division will have a gold, silver, and bronze medalist.
The tournament is open to the public. There will be bleachers and areas for lawn chairs.
To get things warmed up, a tournament social is slated for Sept. 23 from 2-10 p.m. at Athens Alehouse and Cellar, 111 W. Washington Street. It is open to the community and features DJ Zillion and Ramona’s J’s food truck.
