Capstone adds The Villas at Old Monrovia to Huntsville listings

HUNTSVILLE – The latest cottage-style apartment community developed with the new “urban-style, built-to-rent” concept held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in west Huntsville.

Capstone Communities introduced its second such venture in the Huntsville Market – The Villas at Old Monrovia. The company also developed the multi-family The Cottages at Old Monrovia, next door to The Villas.

The new complex is one more addition to expanding growth in the area off Research Park Boulevard near Perimeter Parkway. The campus of Westminster Christian Academy is in the vicinity. 

“I remember when that was a school in the middle of nowhere, and it’s not middle of nowhere anymore,” City Administrator John Hamilton told the crowd prior to the ribbon-cutting. “It’s completely surrounded by phenomenal communities like this.”

Hamilton was standing in for Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle, who is out of town. He stressed the Rocket City’s growth continues to bring jobs to the local market.

“It’s not just random,’’ Hamilton said. “These are jobs that require highly skilled, highly educated workforce who have opportunities. Why do they choose Huntsville? A big part of that equation is – where can I live, raise my family in a good quality community?’’

The Villas at Old Monrovia is a 276-unit multifamily development with a mix of lofts, one- and two-story cottages, and two-story townhomes.

The low-density multifamily community is designed with a “new urbanism” style that will attract young professionals, empty-nesters and others to the growing area.

“I remember coming here, this was all cornfield, cotton fields, and we developed next door, and that was very well received,” Capstone Communities VP Jim Beatty said. “So we had the opportunity to come here with phase two. We jumped all over it. Again. It’s been very well received, as you’ll see around you, the clubhouse, all the amenities – the pickleball courts, the Sonoma fitness – and then just the entire layout of the development.

“I think it’s great for the city of Huntsville. I think it’s great for all the residents. And what we’re looking for is what can we do to attract residents when we know that they’re renters by choice? So we want to be that first choice.”
