ARAB — The city of Arab and Arab Parks and Recreation kick off the holiday season the day after Thanksgiving when Arab City Park is transformed into Christmas in the Park.
The annual holiday spectacle is a festive and over-the-top display of merriment and holiday splendor where more than two million lights illuminate the night sky and decorations galore line the sidewalks. Now in its 31st year, Christmas in the Park runs Friday through Dec. 31.
In celebration of the holiday season, Arab invites visitors to Christmas in the Park for a stroll through a magical wonderland filled with family photo opportunities at every turn.
It all begins Friday at 5:15 p.m. with a lighting ceremony in the center of the Historic Village. The Arab Jazz Band will fill the air with holiday classics.
During Christmas in the Park, the holiday lights are on from dusk until 9:30 p.m., weather-permitting, Friday through Dec. 31. Admission is free. Arab City Park is at 844 Shoal Creek Trail.
Santa in the Village adds to the holiday excitement when the Arab Historic Village, adjacent to the Arab City Park, is transformed into Santa’s village.
As festivalgoers make their way around, a variety of activities will keep everyone entertained. Stop by the gristmill and pick up food for the reindeer, watch as the blacksmith makes reindeer shoes at his shop, head over to the 1890s Farmhouse to visit with the Grinch and be sure to visit with Santa Claus before leaving.
All historic buildings will be open and adorned with festive Christmas decorations with plenty of photo opportunities available to capture the holiday spirit.
Hours for Santa in the Village are 5:30 to 9 p.m. (weather-permitting) Friday; Dec. 5; Dec. 12; and Dec; 19. Visitors can enter the park at 863 Fry Gap Road between the baseball and softball fields. Admission is free.
