HUNTSVILLE — The Rocket City will be the center of the collegiate beach volleyball universe this weekend.

Look for digs, kills and aces as the American Volleyball Coaches Association Beach National Championships take over John Hunt Park over the next three days.

The championships will feature a women’s pairs national championship and a men’s team national championship.

The women’s tournament will consist of 64 pairs selected from college beach teams across the country. The men’s event will bring four schools – Webber International University, Erskine College, Stevenson University and Liberty University – to Huntsville to compete for the third men’s collegiate beach team national championship.

The women’s pairs feature national powers UCLA, Stanford, Hawaii, Southern California, California, Arizona, Florida State, Texas, and TCU and, locally, the University of North Alabama.

The women’s tournament starts Friday at 8 a.m. and concludes with the championship match Sunday at 11:45 a.m.

The men open pool play Saturday at 8 a.m. and the championship is Sunday at 1 p.m.
