MONTGOMERY — The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the convictions of Michael McDade of Huntsville for murder and assault in the second degree, Attorney General Steve Marshall announced today.
McDade, 27, was convicted in Madison County Circuit Court on Jan. 16 for the murder of Quentavies Fletcher in 2021.
The evidence at trial showed that on Oct. 8, 2021, Lyndria Cooper got into a domestic dispute with Fletcher, her boyfriend, after a night of partying, Marshall’s office said in a news release. Police were called to the scene and spoke with Cooper and her family, including McDade, her brother.
According to the news release, Cooper and her family went back to her apartment to retrieve some of her belongings and a confrontation ensued between McDade and Fletcher. McDade shot Fletcher numerous times and later claimed self-defense at trial. That claim was rejected by the jury.
Madison County District Attorney Rob Broussard’s office prosecuted this case and obtained guilty verdicts, the news release said.
McDade was sentenced to 40 years’ imprisonment for his murder conviction and 10 years’ imprisonment for his assault in the second-degree conviction. McDade sought to have his convictions reversed on appeal.
The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division handled the case during the appeals process, arguing for the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals to affirm McDade’s convictions. The court did so in a decision issued Friday, Aug. 15, 2025.
Marshall commended Assistant Attorney General Kyley Goldhagen for her work on the case and thanks Broussard and his staff, for their valuable assistance in defending the murder and assault in the second-degree convictions.
