Cullman Regional opens freestanding ER in Hartselle Health Park

HARTSELLE – To help fill a void in emergency care for Morgan County, Cullman Regional is opening a freestanding emergency department in Hartselle.

The new service is the latest addition to the hospital’s Hartselle Health Park and will provide  24/7 emergency care for residents of Morgan County and surrounding communities. The facility opens 7 a.m. Monday.

With the same capabilities as hospital-based ERs, the new facility has 10 treatment rooms including a dedicated trauma room, ambulance bay, helipad and a full imaging center with CT, X-ray and ultrasound.

“Cullman Regional puts priority on providing high quality care which has led to our Cullman ER consistently beating state and national benchmarks for heart attack and stroke care,” said Dr. Bill Smith, Cullman Regional Chief Medical Officer. “We’re bringing that same level of care to Hartselle.”

Board certified emergency medicine physicians will lead the care team which also includes experienced ER nurses, lab and imaging technicians as well as a paramedic crew in case transport for inpatient care is needed.

The Hartselle ER is also equipped with advanced lab and imaging equipment that enables doctors to quickly diagnose heart attacks and strokes to provide immediate medical intervention.

After requesting state approval in 2023, Cullman Regional was granted permission to open Hartselle Health Park ER. Once construction and staffing were completed, final inspections by the Alabama Department of Public Health were conducted and a state license to operate was issued.

“It’s a long process to bring services like this to Hartselle,” said James Clements, Cullman Regional CEO. “It requires tremendous teamwork and a strong financial commitment. We’re incredibly proud to be able to provide the community with the same high quality ER care we offer in Cullman.”
