HUNTSVILLE — “Hot time, summer in the city …”
The hit song “Summer in the City” by the Lovin’ Spoonful was released 58 years ago this month and it will be a hot time for the next couple days – and not just in the city.
A Heat Advisory is in effect for all of northern Alabama and southern middle Tennessee for today and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service Huntsville office.
The dangerous heat may extend into Friday, the office said, and an additional Heat Advisory may be necessary.
Florence may see a heat index of 109 degrees at noon today while Huntsville, Decatur and Athens could be facing 107. Fayetteville, Tenn.; Hartselle, Russellville and Scottsboro may reach 106 degrees. Guntersville and Madison could see 105 degrees heat indices, with Cullman reaching 103 and Albertville at 101. Fort Payne is the region’s “cool” spot with a heat index of 97 predicted for noon.
Similar heat index readings are in the forecast through Friday.
The weather office said there is a low chance (10-20%) of shower and storms each
afternoon. Chances increase slightly Friday and Saturday.
