HARTSELLE — Motorists on I-65 should expect delays this week due to daytime patching on the interstate between Priceville and Hartselle.
The $16.5 million project to resurface the entirety of I-65 in Morgan County is halfway complete.
The contractor, Rogers Group, and subcontractors recently finished paving the segment of I-65 from Hurricane Creek in Cullman County to just south of Alabama Highway 36 in Hartselle. They also installed traffic striping and raised pavement markers.
Repairs needed ahead of 2026 resurfacing
The second phase of the I-65 project, resurfacing the segment from Highway 36 in Hartselle to north of the Tennessee River in Limestone County, will begin next year when weather permits.
But this week, Rogers Group will make repairs to potholes that would otherwise worsen during winter.
The company plans to patch parts of both roadways between Exit 328 at Highway 36 in Hartselle and Exit 334 at Highway 67 in Priceville today and Wednesday.
Daytime patching on I-65 is inconvenient, but necessary
The work will be performed during the day due to forecasted nighttime temperatures below the optimal range for hot mix asphalt patching.
Weather permitting, work will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days. Crews will work on the southbound roadway first, then switch to the northbound roadway when all southbound patching is complete.
The traffic delays will be due to single-lane closures. Motorists should plan alternate routes or account for additional travel time.
