DECATUR — The Decatur Fire & Rescue Department knows Halloween can be overwhelming for children on the autism spectrum and for those with physical disabilities.

To try and make Halloween a safer and more comfortable environment for children with special needs, the department is hosting a Trunk or Treat celebration Thursday.

From 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the City of Decatur’s Fire and Police Training Center, 4119 Old Highway 31, children and their families are welcome to dress up in their favorite costumes and take part in the festivities.

There will also be pony rides, face painting and endless amounts of candy.

Those feeling brave are invited to venture into the not-too-spooky haunted house inside the training center.

For information, contact Lt. Brandon Sivley at 256-341-4860.
