The Delta Theta Lambda Education Foundation recently awarded nearly $40,000 in scholarships to 32 students from across Madison County, recognizing their academic achievements and helping support their college aspirations.
The scholarships were presented during the foundation’s 2026 Scholarship Awards Presentation. The foundation serves as the philanthropic arm of Huntsville’s Delta Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Funding for the scholarships was raised through the foundation’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast, one of the organization’s signature community events.
The scholarship program received support from numerous corporate sponsors and community partners. Major sponsors included Huntsville Utilities, Meta Platforms, Mazda Toyota Manufacturing and the Dr. R. Parker Griffith Family Foundation.
Additional donors included Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama and Bank Independent, while contributors included AT&T, Laura Hall, Anthony Daniels, Google Fiber, Huntsville Hospital Health System, PNC Bank, Raytheon, Redstone Federal Credit Union and Regions Bank, among others.
One of the scholarship recipients, Emmanuel J. Armstrong, a graduate of Sparkman High School, received the Dr. John W. Hall Memorial Scholarship.
“As a student preparing to attend Alabama A&M University in the fall to major in Biology, receiving this scholarship will help greatly to support my educational journey on the Hill,” Armstrong said.

The Delta Theta Lambda Education Foundation is the philanthropic and community outreach arm of Huntsville’s Delta Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The nonprofit organization supports scholarships, youth mentorship and educational initiatives throughout Madison County. Its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast, held at the Von Braun Center, serves as the foundation’s primary fundraiser and is one of the largest Martin Luther King Jr. celebrations in the Southeast.
The Delta Theta Lambda Education Foundation is chaired by Gary T. Whitley Jr., a member of Huntsville’s Delta Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
Foundation leaders said the scholarship program reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to expanding educational opportunities, supporting student success and investing in the next generation of leaders across North Alabama through scholarships, mentorship and community engagement programs.
