HUNTSVILLE – Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States – one in five Americans will show symptoms by the time they are 70 years old.

However, when detected early, it is one of the easiest forms of cancers to cure.

With the onset of traditionally hot sunny summer days ahead across the South, Dermatology Specialists is recognizing National Skin Cancer Awareness Month by highlighting the risks of the highly curable cancer and to help patients get an early diagnosis.

Dermatology Specialists will host free skin cancer screening at their clinics this month for any adult who has not been screened in the last 12 months.

According to some estimations, more than 9,500 individuals are diagnosed with skin cancer every day and the U.S. spends more than $3.3 billion annually treating melanoma, and more than $4.8 billion treating nonmelanoma skin cancer.

The screenings are only available while appointments last.

The free  screenings are:

  • May 19 – Dothan and Auburn
  • May 24 – Huntsville
  • May 26 – Enterprise, Madison and Troy

Call 877-231-3376 to schedule an appointment.
