HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville homeowners have been cultivating their lawns and outdoor gardens since early April and they should be at their prime here in midsummer.

Homeowners in Huntsville’s District 1 have a chance to prove they are “A Cut Above” when it comes to residential landscaping. Residents have until July 31 to enter their property in the second annual District 1 Summer Landscaping Challenge.
District 1 includes most of north Huntsville and Alabama A&M University.
“Last year’s challenge was a big hit, and we hope to build on the momentum in 2023,” said Councilman Devyn Keith. “Whether you’re a landscaping pro or just getting started, now is the time to show your chops and help keep Huntsville beautiful.”
The front yard competition recognizes homeowners’ residential landscaping skills.
“A Cut Above is designed to not only highlight our homeowners but also bring the community together,” said Keith. “As the summer comes to a close, let’s celebrate by showcasing all the great things District 1 has to offer.”
Titles will be awarded for Best Landscaping, focused on the technical aspects of landscaping like textures, colors, composition; Most Captivating Floral Display and Best Curb Appeal recognizing overall quality.
Winners will take home prizes and a complimentary yard sign designating their title. They will be selected by a committee of city leaders and winners will be contacted in mid-August.
