ATHENS – “So go Downtown,
“Things will be great when you’re Downtown …”
Those words from the 1964 hit by Petula Clark could be referring to Athens because two great events are happening Thursday night in downtown Athens.
International entrepreneur Nora Fleming will be making her first trip to Alabama for a signing at Crawford’s Gifts. The company is famous for its “minis” – platters and dishes that are paired with mini decorative features that can be changed by theme or season.
This event is 5-7 p.m. Customers will have the opportunity to take a photo with Nora and get new pieces just in time for the holiday season. More information is available at Crawford Gifts.
Also taking place is the Top 6 Competition for the Thursday Night Talent competition. Presented by Athens-Limestone Hospital, the competition began in September with a karaoke-style concert on the east side of the Limestone County Courthouse.
The competition start at 6 p.m. and each of the singers will perform one song. The judges will pick three finalists and they will perform their second song selection.
In last month’s first round, 15 performers sang on the courthouse steps in front of a crowd and judges. From that group, six singers advanced to Thursday’s round where the winner will be named and awarded a $1,000 prize.
The top 6 vocalists are Mr. Simmons, Devin Simmons, Jennifer Simmons, Zami Maré, Kaylee Jordan, and Katie Call (People’s Choice).
“Don’t wait a minute more, Downtown
“Everything is waiting for you,
“Downtown.”
