What should the future of historic Downtown Madison look like?
Residents will get their first look next week at the results of a community-wide survey designed to answer that question as Main Street Madison moves into the next phase of a comprehensive market study for the downtown district.
Main Street Madison will host a public vision session Wednesday, Aug. 26, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Madison City Hall Council Chambers.
Representatives from Main Street Alabama and the Downtown Professionals Network will return to Madison for the session, where the project team will present key findings from a consumer survey conducted in June and discuss how that feedback can help guide downtown’s economic development and growth.
“The feedback we received from the community in June was incredibly insightful, and it clearly demonstrates how much people care about the future of Downtown Madison,” Main Street Madison Executive Director Jen DeLessio said.
The June survey gathered input from residents, visitors and business owners about their experiences downtown and what they would like to see there in the future.
During next week’s visit, consultants and local stakeholders will use those results to begin developing a strategic vision for the district, with a focus on economic vitality, supporting small businesses and preserving the character of historic downtown.
“This follow-up visit allows us to pair that local feedback with state and national expertise to build a vibrant, sustainable roadmap,” DeLessio said. “We want everyone to come out on August 26 to see what the community built and help us shape the next steps.”
The public session is open to residents, business owners and others interested in Downtown Madison’s future. No registration is required.
Main Street Madison is a nonprofit organization in Madison dedicated to preserving, promoting, and enhancing downtown Madison through community partnerships, economic development, historic preservation, and placemaking initiatives that strengthen the city’s unique character and support local businesses.
The meeting will be held at Madison City Hall, 100 Hughes Road.
