HUNTSVILLE — The sounds of plastic on pavement will be echoing on the streets of Huntsville as the latest rec craze hits a unique venue in the Rocket City.
Downtown Huntsville Inc. and the Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau have teamed up to bring the Downtown Pickleball Takeover.
The downtown area will be transformed with temporary courts on Holmes Avenue, next to the Greene Street Parking Garage, and on Northside Square, on October 26, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will also be a pickleball clinic from 11 a.m. to noon on Northside Square and noon to 1 p.m. on Holmes Avenue.
“This event brings together the community in a fun, healthy way, and we’re excited to offer a unique downtown experience with pickleball at its heart,” said DHI President and CEO Rob Buddo. “Whether you’re playing or spectating, we invite everyone to come downtown and enjoy a great day of activity, music, and entertainment.”
The courts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis throughout the day. For those who prefer to secure their spot ahead of time, court reservations can be made online here.
The courts are open to all ages and skill levels. Participants are encouraged to bring their own paddles and pickleballs.
After the pickleball festivities, the public is invited to the Downtown Night Market from 6-10 p.m. in Washington Park (the pocket park behind the Yarbrough Building at the corner of Washington Street and Holmes Avenue) for a night of local artists, makers, crafts, DJs, and more.
The takeover is sponsored by The Orthopaedic Center.
