HUNTSVILLE — It pays well, if you’re good at it!
Dozens of high schoolers, college students and professionals hacked their hearts out for cold hard cash during the HudsonAlpha and Urban Engine 2022 Tech Challenge Let’s Hack Genomics. The competition was held May 6-8.
The mission of the HudsonAlpha Tech Challenge (HATCH) is to inspire creativity through collaboration, but those who were good at it won themselves some dough – $5,000 in prizes.
In the professional and college category, the first place prize of $2,000 went to Doug Casey, Katie Ostrouchov and Jake Carter of PGX Insight.
Second place, and its $1,000 prize, went to Grant Ingram with Plants on the Run while Chad Etheredge, Ben Etheredge and Morgan Burcham of TreMap took third place and $500.
In the High School category, William Mitchell of the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering and Sirisha Chennupati of St. John Paul II Catholic High School won $1,000 for FHIR.
The Spirit Award went to Grant Ingram and the GNOME went to Ethan R, Eoin and Mia.
