Drive Electric Alabama hosting showcase at MidCity to celebrate National Drive Electric Week

BIRMINGHAM – Proponents of electric vehicles tout lower fuel and maintenance costs as key benefits of driving electric.

But how much money do EV owners really save? And why do they consistently rave about EVs’ instant torque and thrilling driving experience compared to gas-powered cars and trucks?

Those questions can be answered by EV owners during a series of showcase EVents this week across Alabama. To celebrate National Drive Electric Week, there will be four showcases – in Auburn, Birmingham, Huntsville and Foley. At all four, EV owners will display their vehicles and talk one-on-one with anyone wanting to learn more about driving electric every day.

In Huntsville, the EV Showcase will be Saturday at Huntsville’s MidCity District. The event is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be near the Tesla chargers in the parking lot on MidCity Drive, near REI.

“If you want to know more about EVs, why wouldn’t you want to talk actual EV owners?” said Michael Staley, president of the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition, an organization that helped coordinate the four EV showcases. “The very best way to learn about EVs is to talk to the people who drive them every day.

“As more and more EVs are on Alabama’s roads, it makes sense for everyone to learn more about these cars and trucks.”

The EVents are free and open to the public. For EV owners who want to showcase a vehicle, registration is available at driveelectricalabama.com on the “Resources & Events” page.

National Drive Electric Week is designed to spread the word about the many benefits of electric vehicles.

“A majority of Alabamians have still never driven an EV,” Staley said. “What’s amazing about these EV showcases is that people can some see the wide variety of EVs available – from SUVs to full-sized pick-up trucks to luxury cars – and talk to the people driving them every day.

“I encourage anyone who wants to know more about EVs, especially if you’re thinking about buying one for your next vehicle purchase, to attend one of the four EV showcases around the state.”
