Florence’s McGee Farm ready to harvest some fun

FLORENCE — Each year, McGee Farm welcomes thousands of visitors to its pumpkin patch and to celebrate the arrival of fall.

With plenty of space to spread out, McGee Farm will open daily for the pumpkin patch Sept. 30 through Oct. 31. The public is invited to a pumpkin-picking experience along with on-the-farm fun activities.

McGee Farm is in its 28th season of helping find the perfect carving or cooking pumpkin. Visitors have a choice of picking their orange treasure straight off the vine from the pumpkin patch or from a pile that have been pre-picked. More than 25 varieties of pumpkins are available in a variety of sizes.

Take a tractor-drawn wagon ride to the real pumpkin patch or visit the patch via a short nature-rich walk. Along with pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, visitors are treated to activities such as playing in hay, a barnyard bounce and feeding chickens.

For those who want a piece of the autumn season to enjoy at home, fall decorations, such as straw bales, corn stalks and miniature gourds, will be available to purchase.

In addition to pumpkins, McGee Farm is the local grower of thousands of colorful mums. As the largest grower in the area, the farm has thousands of pots and color variations.

After shopping for pumpkins, guests are invited to stay and enjoy a bite to eat at The Kitchen at McGee Farm. Home-cooked country favorites such as white beans and cornbread, soups, muffins, homemade treats, pies and more will be available to purchase. McGee Farm Kitchen has a large porch and a picnic area under a huge oak tree where guests can have picnics or can sit and enjoy the scenic countryside.

McGee Farm is open to the public Monday through Friday 3 to 6 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays 1 to 5 p.m. from Sept. 30-Oct. 31. Hours are subject to change and guests are asked to check www.mcgeefarm.com or https://www.facebook.com/lenismcgeefarm before arrival for current information.

Admission to shop at the farm and visit the kitchen is free. The cost to visit the pumpkin patch and the farm fun activities is $3.25 per person. Guests may add a wagon ride ticket for an additional $3 and jump on the jumping pillow is an additional $3.25. Pricing is a la carte to favor families’ budgets. Pumpkin prices begin at $4, with larger pumpkins sold at 45 cents per pound.

McGee Farm is a working family farm at 8221 County Road 7 in Florence. For more information, contact Amy McGee at 256-766-2725.
