Football playoffs: Plainview on AHSAA TV; Piedmont meets Fyffe in 600-game winners

RAINSVILLE — It’s a big week for high school playoff football in North Alabama.

There will be a matchup of two 600-game winning programs and the AHSAA TV lights will shine in Rainsville in the 60th AHSAA State Football Playoffs.

Piedmont (11-0), coached by Jonathan Miller, defeated Phil Campbell 59-19 in last Friday’s first round of the Class 3A playoffs and notched the school’s 600^th win. The Bulldogs became the 49^th school in AHSAA history to reach that milestone.

Now, ironically, they advance to round two this Friday to face Fyffe, with 611 victories in their historic program.

Meanwhile, “Live from Rainsville, it’s Friday night!” as Alexandria (10-1) visits Plainview (11-0) for the AHSAA TV Network/Alabama Public Television/WOTM Game of the Week.

The Valley Cubs of Coach Todd Ginn downed Fayette County 47-20 in round one, and the Bears of Coach Dale Pruitt beat Brooks 35-12 in their playoff opener. The game will be available to every household in the state via APT, the AHSAA TV Network, and live video streamed over the NFHS Network.

Another playoff regular, continues to roll. Colbert County (8-3), coached by Oscar Bonds, won their 90^th playoff game overall beating Collinsville 64-19. This year’s playoff appearance is the 48^th in school history (out of 60 seasons) – tops in the AHSAA.

Class 3A Mars Hill Bible (11-0) is among the seven defending state champions who won their playoff openers. The Panthers rolled over Whitesburg Christian 70-14 and will host Winfield on Friday.

Also, unbeaten Muscle Shoals (10-0) is hosting defending 6A champion Parker (8-3).
