John Kvach, the former executive director of the Singing River Trail, pleaded guilty Monday to one count of possession of child pornography.

Kvach was originally indicted in December 2025 on five counts of possession of child pornography and one count of dissemination.

As part of a plea deal, he pleaded guilty to a single count while the remaining charges were dropped. Prosecutors told the judge they were comfortable with the reduced charge because Kvach did not produce any of the images himself, claiming one count was sufficient given those circumstances.

Kvach was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the Class C felony, but that sentence was suspended, meaning he will not serve any jail time. He will serve three years of probation and must register as a sex offender.

Kvach was fired from his role with the Singing River Trail following his arrest in June 2024. He previously served as an associate professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville from 2008 to 2018.
