Former Trash Pandas infielder Paris gets start for Angels

MADISON – Kyren Paris, who has spent parts of the last three seasons with the Rocket City Trash Pandas, got his second promotion to the Los Angeles Angels and started at second base Saturday in a 9-3 win over the Kansas City Royals.

He got the start at second base again Sunday, a 4-2 Angels win, but wasn’t as effective at the plate going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.

Meanwhile, his former team lost Sunday 4-2 to the Mississippi Braves. The series ended tied 3-3.

The Trash Pandas (16-16) will now travel to Tennessee (19-14) to face the Smokies this week. First pitch against the Smokies is slated for 6 p.m. Tuesday. Josh Caray will have the call on WZZN 97.7-HD2.

Paris set Trash Pandas records during the 2023 season, finishing with a team-best 44 steals and 88 walks to go along with a .255 average, 14 home runs and 45 RBI in 113 games.

Toward the end of the season, Paris was assigned to the Angels where he would become the 26th Trash Panda to make his major league debut. He had four hits in 40 at-bats with one RBI and three stolen bases.

Paris represented the Angels in the 2023 Futures Game and was named a Southern League All-Star. A shortstop/second baseman, he is ranked the Angels No. 3 prospect and top infielder.

The Oakley, Calif., native appeared in 23 games for the Trash Pandas during the 2024 season and made his Double-A debut in Rocket City during the team’s playoff push in 2022.
