From Sand Mountain to Ice Mountain? Skating rink coming to Albertville

ALBERTVILLE — Ready to cool off from the intense summer heat?

Well, get ready to throw on your favorite sweater, lace up your skates and head to Sand Mountain Park & Amphitheater this fall.

Sand Mountain Skate will open Nov. 8 at the recreation and entertainment venue in Albertville.

The 4,000 square-foot rink will be open Nov. 18 to Jan. 6 for public skating, lessons, birthday/corporate/private parties, church/school groups and much more.

“Our mission is to dramatically improve the health and economic vitality of the Sand Mountain region,” Sand Mountain Park General Manager Patrick O’Brien said in a recent news release. “(The rink) will draw numerous visitors from outside the region, and those visitors will patronize local restaurants, shops, gas stations, hotels and more.

“It will also be a focal point of fun during the holiday season that will help improve the mental and physical health of the Sand Mountain region.”

Public skate sessions will be $12 per person, including skate rental; $6 per person without skate rental. Skate aids will be available for $5. Members-only skate nights will also be offered. Check the Sand Mountain Skate Facebook page for more information.

“Sand Mountain Skate will enable our community to participate in a fun outdoor activity during the fall and winter seasons that will bring people together,” O’Brien said. “Having the opportunity to get outside in the fresh air to skate on real ice is something that Marshall County has never had.

“We have a can’t-miss holiday destination this year right here in Albertville.”
