Girls on the Run: Huntsville program helps provide confidence in every stride for young girls

HUNTSVILLE – Girls in grades 3-5 are invited to let their feet fly as part of Girls on the Run, a popular eight-week program designed to help participants build confidence, improve decision-making skills and develop a love for running.

Starting March 17 and running through May 10, sessions will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Fern Bell Recreation Center, 107A Sanders Road.

Led by a team of five certified coaches, the program is more than just running — it’s a journey that encourages girls to set goals, build relationships and learn important life skills.

Tania Jessie, wellness and fitness programmer at the Johnson Legacy Center, is returning as one of the program’s coaches.

“This program provides young girls with the tools they need to build lasting confidence and a strong sense of self-worth,” Jessie said. “Beyond physical activity, it fosters a sense of camaraderie, helping girls form lifelong friendships while learning to support and uplift one another.

“This program not only instills a love of fitness but also equips girls with valuable life skills they’ll carry with them forever.”

The cost of the program is $20 per participant, and space is limited to 25 girls. Registration is open until March 3. Visit Huntsville Parks & Recreation on Facebook for more information or sign up directly through the Girls on the Run North Alabama website.
