Governor Ivey’s final State of the State address set for January 13

Governor Kay Ivey will deliver the final State of the State address of her tenure Tuesday, January 13, as Alabama lawmakers convene for the start of the 2026 legislative session.

Ivey will address a joint session of the Alabama House and Senate at 6 p.m. in the Old House Chamber at the State Capitol. The address will be broadcast live statewide, with viewing details to be released closer to the event.

The speech will mark Ivey’s ninth State of the State address and come as she enters her 10th regular legislative session as governor.

It also represents the closing chapter of a historic tenure that began in 2017, when she became Alabama’s second female governor, and continued through her election to a full term in 2018 and re-election in 2022.

“We are coming into this legislative session with some serious momentum,” Ivey said in a statement announcing the address. “I am proud to work with our legislators this session to get good work done for the people of Alabama.”

Ivey pointed to recent economic development announcements as a sign of that momentum, including a six billion dollar investment by Eli Lilly to build a new manufacturing facility in the state.

She said the upcoming session will focus on continuing progress in education, strengthening public safety, maintaining conservative budgeting practices and preparing Alabama for long term growth.

Since taking office, Ivey has emphasized workforce development, infrastructure investment and economic recruitment, while also navigating challenges ranging from natural disasters to the COVID 19 pandemic.

Her administration has highlighted record economic development wins, prison system reforms and sustained investments in education and road projects.

In recent years, Ivey has also focused on fiscal stability, with state leaders frequently pointing to conservative budgeting and strong reserve funds as key accomplishments.

The January address is expected to outline her priorities for the final year of her administration and set the tone for what she described as “a productive and exciting 12 months ahead.”
