Grammy-nominated jazz artist Kate McGarry at Lowe Mill

HUNTSVILLE — Valley Arts and Entertainment is hosting three-time Grammy nominated jazz artist Kate McGarry, Friday at The Studio Theatre at Lowe Mill.

McGarry will conduct a Masterclass, give a short performance, and take the audience on a trip through the history of singing contributions and styles of trailblazing women.

All singing styles are encouraged to attend. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the Masterclass runs from 6-9 p.m. The Masterclass is limited to 15 people – first come, first served; the cost is $20. Click here for ticket information.

With seven critically acclaimed CDs and Grammy nominations in 2009, 2019 and 2021, McGarry has become recognized as a jazz artist who brings authenticity and vitality to her music.

As an educator, she has taught at Manhattan School of Music and California Jazz Conservatory.

Downbeat’s 2016 Critics Poll named McGarry the No. 1 Rising Star Female Vocalist.

McGarry has been interviewed on NPR’s “All Things Considered,” and has performed on “Jazz Sets” with DeeDee Bridgewater and pianist Marion McPartland, as well as nationally syndicated radio shows.

Tickets are $10 online and $12 at-the-door; there is no charge for parking.
